For a person who is looking for a faster board, it is better that he get himself a flatter board than one with a rocker because flatter board has the tendency to glide over the waves. Conventionally, it was thought that the gloss finished boards would be faster but it has been proved that sand finished boards are able to hold a thin layer of water, which reduces the drag between that layer and the water it moves over. Another tip to remember is to choose a quad find over a tri-fin. The shaper is so made that the water is forced out of the back.
